1. Warning - No paper Tray
This is a great printer, but the lack of a papertray severly hampers productivity. You can open the manual feed door and stack paper there, but it hangs out and over time bends the paper etc. The paper tray is a 150 dollar option. If you want to buy this printer with the papertray already bundled, buy the 2550N.

2. Smart Chip Screws the consumer
Chips inside the toner cartridges force you to throw away consumables before their time.

It's frustrating to send a toner cartridge you can feel still has 1/3 to 1/2 its toner back to HP, but that's what they expect you to do. It's also expensive. Our per page cost sky rocketed to 6.5 cents, NOT counting the paper...

1. A nice little workhorse. Rugged and well-designed
I bought the HP2600N with a little trepidation. The price was so low that I was afraid that there was a "catch"--that either it jammed a lot, was too slow, or had some other fault. It was not the case.

This has been a very rugged little workhorse for my light to medium duty needs. It is adequately fast at 8PPM for the needs of my home law office. I use the 2600N mainly in conjunction with wordprocessing and the reproduction of scanned documents in TIFF format. The 2600N has been a solid performer in this regards. The 16MB of on-board RAM, while not a lot, seems to be more than adequate for relatively fast printing of scanned documents and photos. HP seems to have kept the price down on this little beast by carefully engineering just how much of a feature is needed to make the overall device perform smartly. I am very pleased with the 2600N.

Incidentally, this unit is network-ready. Hard to believe for the price.

2. Ink RipOff
If you don't print primarily COLOR documents, DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER. I purchased the HP Color Laserjet 2600n as an alternative to cheap inkjet printers which use way too much ink. I knew the cartridges were expensive ($85.00 per) but with the yield of each cartridge I thought it was worth it. I also made the assumption that because I used the printer primarily for black ink documents that my color cartridges would last a lot longer than my black cartridge...WRONG. I called HP Technical support for a minor issue. I spoke with Tania. Tania told me that this is primarily a color printer, therefore, when you print a document which only uses black ink, the printer assumes you're also using the color cartridges, so it is using up the color cartridges at the same rate. There's only one catch, when the printer tells you that you have to replace the color cartridges, most likely there is still a LOT of toner left in the cartridge. When I became incredulous, she laughed at me...

well i guess this review if based on the printer and the ink . they are great as far as color is concerned .but they run out pretty fast and they are very expensive. we use them for business. we print mostly black and white and rarely use color. but the color somehow runs out as if it mixes in with the black . we were not able to use the printer after the magenta ran out , when we put the magenta in it informed us that all the other colors ( not the black, since we replaced it a week before ) were out and we could not use the printer till we replaced them all .. somehow i think its a scam with hp , but im not an expert on manufacturing ..

We decided to purchase this copier for my wife's small law office. We had an aging Ricoh Aficio 2035 that was rated at35 ppm. It has over 250,000 copies on it, and the repair bill to service it to restore to clear copies was $1,000 parts and labor. Parts alone was $400 for the photo drum and service kit bought in discount. All that to say this MFC Printer is replacing a Ricoh copier rated at 35ppm with a duty cycle of 80,000 copies a month. We have a consumer grade multifunction HP Color Copy/Print/Fax that is ok for light use that works OK. We also have a stand-alone monochrome laser printer, of SOHO grade. So I was a bit nervous on trying out this new ground of enterprise level MFC printers. 1. Great Hardware, poor networking & support
We decided on this printer due to very positive experiences with HP B&W LaserJets. This printer is huge, prints fast and the output is top notch. However, it doesn't network well. We purchased this printer to connect via Ethernet to our Peer to Peer network as a central office printer. There's only one problem, printing to it is very very problematic! Often, the spooler has to be shut down and restarted or the computer has to be restarted to get it printing. In some older programs such as Word 97, it crashes the program when you print. Most of the time, it just doesnt print anything without jumping through a lot of hoops. Definitely not a time saver. We explained the problem to tech support and their response was "so what's the problem?". After 2 hours with support, they had us download a firmware update and the printer is working better, but still crashing the older programs. We haven't decided whether to keep it yet. If HP could create drivers that worked as flawlessly...

2. Going Strong After 3 Years
After 3 years, still a champ.

I work from home and use this daily. In three years, I've probably gone through 3 or 4 full sets of cartridges and tons and tons of paper, and this printer has never let me down, EVER.

Currently set up to print through my home network from any of the various computers. I've had ZERO (knock on wood) issues with this printer, and I'm hoping that will continue for years more. I have been noticing lately that it's been going through the Cleaning cycle a bit more than I've noticed in the past; I'll look into this, but it shows that I haven't really had to do anything with this printer other than feed it paper and cartridges from time to time.

If you're looking for a fast, reliable printer, this one fits the bill. If I had to do it over again, I might consider the duplex printer - that's my only real comment other than to say that this printer has been fantastic to me and I'm sold on HP printers (at least their higher end...

1. Wireless rocks, but the set up can be frustrating.
I was skeptical about paying extra for the wireless networking capabilities, but I have found this to be a real plus. My biggest complaint so far is the set up wizard is a bit frustrating, at least for me. I wanted to use this printer with my wireless DSL modem. The paper set up manual clearly indicates which installation mode I should choose (the infrastructure mode). So I go through the set-up wizard from the CD-ROM. I wanted to make sure the printer could utilize the security settings of the wireless network, just to make extra sure that nothing unsecured was going to happen. So I tried to set this up as "secured authentication." This cause a "severe error" in the set up. I tried this several times with the same results. Finally I decided to choose the "open authentication" which according to the wizard means unsecured. It turned out that choosing "open authentication" is exactly the right option, because on the next screen the wizard prompts you to add the security settings in...

2. Remote / Work from home
As is more commonplace these days, I work "remotely" for a corporation. This requires some heavy printing on occasion of simple documents, charts, graphs etc. Set-up was extremely easy, the quality of print is excellent with no blurring, and printing time is at a quite acceptable speed. I have had no technical issues with it and consider it a must have. When I have switched the printer from my den to bedroom it was simply a matter of unplugging and plugging it in..what could be easier. I would highly recommend this printer for the on-the-go remote worker or anyone else who enjoys the convenience of not only a fine printer but that of mobility. Bottomline, its a quality printer, that is quiet, speedy and mobile.

Exactly what I needed
I bought this for small office printing, with occasional larger jobs. I wanted a lower cost-per-page than an inkjet. The most valuable features for me are the automatic double-sided printing and the wireless capability. I really had no problem with installation on my Mac. The text is very crisp, photos are pretty good as well, printing from color originals. It's fairly quiet in operation. My only wish is that they still made the supplementary paper tray. Sometimes the 250 sheets in the standard tray go pretty quickly. Overall I'm very pleased.

It prints high-speed, two-sided, high resolution documents.

Pleased with full PCL 5 support
When searching for a color laser our main concern and criteria was finding one that had full support for PCL 5. This is increasingly difficult to find. We needed it to have FULL support for PCL5 so that it would be compatible with some older universe/unix programs that we already had and didn't want to have to re-write. We had previously tried a different HP laserjet (1022n) which said it had PCL 5e support, and after testing it we found that it didn't support all of the commands and did not work with our existing software. So we had our fingers crossed when we ordered the CP3505 and we have not been disappointed. This printer worked perfectly and seems to work with all of the PCL 5 commands that we have tried so far. We are pleased with its performance printing from Windows as well, and have had no problems with it on our network print server.

My school owns two of these and they have worked quite well. We run an NT network and have 2 labs with about 50 computers in each. The computers in the lab print to these, and because we run a network and the printer can two, every classroom and can print to the lab printers. The printer is very versatile with 2 or 3 automatic bays for paper and 2 manual entry paper bays for large papers or envelopes and such. It prints extremely fast, but takes about 5 minutes to warm up in the morning, or 2 minutes to warm up if it hasn't been used in a couple hours. It rarely has problems, and when it does it is usually the kids' fault. It has worked extremely well for our school and has had only a few minor problems.

Having used this printer extensively for one year I have come to the conclusion that it is the best printer I have ever owned. Picture quality is superb; really, really good for a laser. This printer is large and heavy, but that seems to be related to it's paper handling capabilities. The printer is totally quiet until you print, then it warms up instantly and prints very fast. Print quality is very consistent, every time. The printer is used for office documents and small runs of promotional literature and works flawlessly. When you use the HP 4005dn you get the feeling this printer can handle way more than your throwing at it; this printer has "depth". There are cheaper, smaller units...but when you have a deadline and you need a bullet proof solution that does a great job, every time - this is it. The only draw back would be the price of the toner, which is a little high for volume printing.

I purchased the upscale model of the Color Laserjet 2605, the 2605 dtn. The printer is listed as somewhat slow on review sites, but it's just fine for my needs. However, the add-on bottom tray that came with the printer was defective, and never worked (couldn't open the drawer). HP was very responsive with over the phone support, and sent another. That one was defective, too. After a couple hours on the phone, I finally got a third tray that worked. Hmm.

I have had this printer for a few years not. It is fast and reliable. I use it in my home office. Mostly light use, but there are periods of heavy use. Nothing fancy, but it is a solid performer.

2. HP P2055 Workhorse Printer

I use this printer for black and white printing at home. I have it connected to my home Ethernet. In our household we do a fair amount of printing. A lot of printing is associated with work or school.

The HP2015X was easy to install and worked easly. The printer is fast and quiet. I bought it for routine bulk printing in our home computing environment.

The print quality is very good. The printer is fairly small and fairly quiet. It starts printing quickly and it prints quite fast. It is a typical HP laser printer. The two paper trays handle a lot paper so that you can do a lot of printing without adding paper.

What has not been that typical for lost cost HP BW lasers is the network card comes built-in (no external networking modules). Software for networking installs easily.

Very reliable, easy network setup.
Used in an office, as the only printer for three people. Very reliable, rarely fails to print on the first try. My biggest complaint would be the location of the power button. This is a large (and tall) printer, so if you put it somewhere with limited space, the power button is hard to access. Lights on top are not labeled or marked clearly at all. Without the manual in hand, troubleshooting any error light at all is impossible. Fortunately, the error rate is very low, so that's just a minor nuisance.

1. HP Color LaserJet 3550 Printer
I looked at all of the laser printers and inkjet. Every article says there is nothing like an inkjet. I can tell you for a fact that they are wrong!! There is no comparison at all when printed on plain paper; this HP LaserJet 3550 is the best!! When printed on gloss paper a great inkjet is better but not by much at all. Meaning you will not need an inkjet unless you already have one. I read all the articles on all brands (OKI, Samsung, HP, Lexmark, Brother, Ricoh, Minolta, Panasonic, etc...) (trust me I spent 2+ weeks reading) of laser printers. I sent (and paid) for samples only to find out that the HP LaserJet printers (3500, 3550, 3700) produce the best output (B&W, color, and photo) and they only have 600*600 res., which goes to show you resolution means nothing (at least with HP)!!

This HP 3550 printer is fast and produced the best photos I have seen on any laser printer (no banding also!). Power consumption is low, it is Quiet for a laser, and of course it is...

2. A whole lot of printer
I have the HP Color Laserjet 3550. Straight off the bat let me state that this printer is big. When I say big, I mean big. When it was delivered I was astonished at the size of the box and after unpacking it I spend a few minutes taking in its size. I then realized that it was taller than I anticipated, even though the dimensions quoted in my prepurchase research were accurate. Seeing is believing. Despite the size, it is well designed and infact, beautifully made.

Setup of the printer and toners was extremely easy, and the installation of drivers was okay. After following the instructions given in the setup guide, the installation process stopped on my PC for no apparent reason. I eventually restarted the pc with the setup cd in the machine AND the printer connected to the pc and everything sorted itself out perfectly.

When I did my first print (the printer's demo page) and saw the quality on plain copy paper, I knew that I had made the right decision on...

HP Laserjet 3550 a GREAT color laser printer
I was pleasantly surprised with this color laserjet. I previously had the HP 4550, which was (is) the most disappointing color laser printers (at 4ppm and outrageously expensive ink drum). I was a little skeptical about the capabilities of the 3550, but with a little research online and testing at local computer stores, I decided to go with the 3500 (actually, I got the 3550n with networking). It did not come with a network card (like the 4550), but it did come with a USB network print server (which I like better anyway).

It boasts 16ppm for color (which is faster than my old one), but only 16ppm for b&w text (which is slow compared to my HPLJ 2420 at 25ppm). Others boast a fast 25ppm color and b&w text (Lexmark C762) but for twice the price. The comparable Lexmark unit is the C510, which prints 30ppm text, but a slow 8ppm color. This is why I went for the HP.

I will have to say that my inkjet printers (HP and Epson) can print better photo-quality than this...

1. Great printer!
I got this printer a few months ago for my office and so far I really like it. The duplex option is terrific. Double-sided printing not only is greener, it helps to keep the files from getting too fat.

The print quality is great, though the colors do print a bit darker than I'd expect based on their appearance on screen. I haven't had any paper jams or other problems with it.

Getting the full size printer cartridges with it is a good deal. So far, I've only had to change the black one so it does monitor them separately (I've heard of other HP color printers that force you to change the color printer cartridges when the black runs out).

BTW, I don't know what the guy with the envelope problems is talking about. I print envelopes frequently and it has never sealed one. Based on my experience, I would guess his problems have more to do with the humidity around his store of envelopes than with the printer.

2. Works Well
It is great having a color LaserJet printer. I am using it on my Mac. The only thing I wish this printer had was a built in wireless capability. I have it plugged into my Time Capsule and not into my computer but it would be better if it were wireless like my Photosmart printers by HP. Installation went without a hitch and I am very happy with my new color printer.

HP CP3505DN Color Laserjet PrinterI purchased the hp 3505 dn primarily for its color duplex capabilities and it does a superb job. The printer arrived with all toner cartridges installed and all I had to do was remove the packing materials, load rhe software, connect it to my network and print. I have never had a paper jam have used regular copy paper as well as card stock. I don't do double sided with card stock though. I rate hp printers as one of the best brands and currently have 2 hp color lasers and 2 black and white laser printers and have had no problems with any of them. I can reccommend the hp 3505 dn printer to anyone.

I purchased this printer earlier this week to replace an HP 2600n that had failed. The software installed without issues on four computers, which run either Windows Vista or Windows XP operating systems. No problem printing on any (or all) of the computers. Printer prints both color and B&W very quickly. Duplex printing option works great. Prints are high quality.
The only issues to date include:
1. Installation software offered either default or custom installation options. Even though I chose the custom option, the software gave me no choices for installation, and everything was installed on all four computers. I had to call customer support to then uninstall unnecessary software on three of the computers.
2. HP defaults this printer to the setting: Stop at out. This setting stops the printer from printing when a print cartridge has reached the end of its estimated life. I've found that a print cartridge has several hundred usable pages of life left when this setting...

2. Never go back to Inkjet!
What a fantastic printer! After spending a small fortune over the past 6 years with two top-of-the-line Epson Photostylus inkjet printers, I'd had enough when my R1800 started chewing through 50% of the 6 ink cartridges it has just trying to get the nozzles cleaned....all at $14/cartridge. So I did a little research and found the CP2025dn brand-new from HP. What a joy!

I just hung it off the home router with its network interface and leave it on 24 hours a day. It goes into sleep mode (from which it only draws a couple of watts of power) yet it immediately wakes up begins printing within about 20 seconds. AND it doesn't clink and clang and make all kinds of fuss: it just prints! This is in what I would call an medium intensity home office or very intense personal use. Four people are using it, 3 from windows, 1 mac and everyone loves it. Using the HP glossy laserjet photopaper it even produces decent pics - not near what an R1800 would do BUT at a fraction of the...

Better that printing in kinkos
After spending a small fortune printing brochures in Kinko's, I got this printer. It is great. Same quality as Kinko's. Now I spend a fortune in toners, but on a FULL color page I estimate a 20% savings in this printer over kinkos, but if you pages do not have a color background, the savings are even bigger since Kinko's charges per page does not matter the amount of toner they use.

I had printed enough documents to get a better estimate, My costs are ~60% to 80% lower than printing at Kinkos. Paper included.
If printing from adobe products, use the Universal PS drivers to get the colors as you see it in a calibrated monitor. The PCL5 drivers for some reason do not give me the right colors.

1. HP still makes a great printer
We have several other HP models which have been reliable but when we were shopping for a new printer our computer consultants tried to sway us from HP, but the deal on Amazon was too good to pass up. This is a heavy duty machine that puts up with hundreds of pages per day without a glitch. I've been using it for a few years and it has been problem and maintenance free.

2. Worked for a while.
This printer was purchased 2 years ago and the fuser has gone out. Two different repair companies have said that they can replace the fuser, for a chunk of money, but both said there is NO guarantee that replacing the fuser will fix the problem or that the "fix" will last long.

Good printer but a toner hog.
Our office has two of these printers and they do get a lot of use. The second one was put in service a week ago. They print great and they are fast. The only complaint that I have about them is that even in "economy mode", they use a lot of toner. That can pose a real problem in locations that do high volume printing like we do. I cannot find any data on HP's website as to how many print jobs a toner cartridge should produce.

1. Great office printer - works great under Linux
After searching a number of reviews from users, magazines, and other sources I finally decided to replace my 12 year old LaserJet 5, and two color inkjet printers with the HP 3600dn. I actually ordered a refurbished one. The hardest part about setting up this printer was lifting it out of the box. At over 60 pounds, it is not something you are going to just move around on a whim.

This printer works fine under Linux. I connected it to the LAN using the ethernet cable and loaded the HPIJS package on my system for the printer driver (available from your favorite distribution source), told CUPS (v1.3.4) to find new printers, and it worked.

Print quality is great, just remember that this is not a photo printer. It does a good job with pictures, but it is not meant to compete against the super high resolution printers that can print on photopaper. The built in duplexer works well and saves a lot of trouble when you want to print a large double sided document...

2. If noise is no problem, here's your color printer!
Purchased to be a general printer this one works well. Fast, good color, and easy to install. when printing, you do hear lots of clicks, and other loud noises.

Great Printer for a busy office
This a a really great printer for our office.
It is a little load when it is printing but the quality over shadows the noise.
Wireless connection to the printer wa pretty easy. We have 4 offices that print to it with out any problem.
It holds a good amount of paper and the duplexor has been great to use as well.
Color pages are great as long as you are not trying to print photos on photo paper. It doesn't do so great in that department.
Fast and reliable is what we were looking for and that is what we got.

Super Printer!
I had read bad and good reviews for this printer before deciding to buy one. I think that the bad reviews are from people who either got a lemmon or are just not good at reading technical manual instructions.
This printer is a last years Stapels model. It works eithernet connected or wirelessly with equal results which are picture perfect and fast. I can't believe I paid only $115.00 plus $17.32 for shipping since the newer Staples offering sells for $249.00 on sale.

We ordered this printer to replace an HP 5si printer.

The printer was shipped and packed with great. The box it came in was in new condition when it arrived. The seller had put the box on a pallet, strapped it down and then wrapped it in plastic. The printer itself was packed in bubble wrap inside the box.

The printer works great. One of the side panels on the printer was not on quite right. I think that they had inspected the printer and didn't get that one panel back on right. It was easy to fix.

I'm very happy with the printer and the way it was shipped.

I received the printer very quickly after ordering. I received a functional printer that worked without any problems. My only problem was that this printer was advertised as being as clean as new but when we received the printer it was extremely dirty like it had just been pulled out of service.

I can't really imagine why this printer doesn't have 5 stars across the board. I've used and installed dozens of these over the past two decades. They are UNBELIEVABLY reliable. They are super easy to repair (I'm a real klutz at this stuff and I can do it). The parts are plentiful and cheap.
AND--AS THE SUPER BONUS--they are THE CHEAPEST PRINT SOURCE YOU WILL FIND IN THE WESTERN WORLD. I can buy refilled toner cartridges all day long on ebay for $20. I get about 8,000 pages out of these. Hmmm...let's see...that's 4,000 pages for 2,000 cents. That's about 1/2 cent per page for printer costs (plus your paper cost)! Try to beat that ANYWHERE.
My current personal office LaserJet 4 (a 4M Plus, but I don't use the "M" or the "Plus" part) has a page count of over 300,000. I bought it (very used) about 12 years ago at a thrift store for $30. I replaced the fuser/toner about 10 years ago for about $100.
These are, quite simply, the GREATEST PRINTER VALUE ON THE PLANET--assuming...

2. The Clydesdales of All Workhorses!
I bought my LaserJet 4 about 15 years ago, when they were selling new for $1200.00, at an business auction for $750.00. That was an excellent price for it back then, and when I look at it now, I still think of how "I've gotten my money's worth" out of it.

This is an excellent machine from the people at HP. It just keeps pumping out page after page after page, with no failure of any of the mechanical elements. As a matter of fact, I've never changed out any of the working components, other than the toner cartridges. And paper jams usually occur when it is in the middle of a print job, and the paper runs out. When you print alot, it is easy to forget to fill the 250 page tray.

The manual feed allows for heavy paper weights too, almost to Card Stock levels. I run any type of paper, and don't see any difference in quality, detail or jamming.

I fill my own cartridges now, only buying refurbed replacements every once in a while, and have gotten the cost down...

A workhorse
HP set the standard for laser printing. The first true workhorse in the family was the LaserJet II, a 300-dpi printer that wouldn't quit and was relatively easy to get into and repair. In addition, it became so popular that almost every piece of software that offered printing could print to this machine. The LJ III was similar, but the real workhorse became the LJ4, a 600-dpi printer that is remarkable for its age.

The basic 4 was fine, but if you wanted a bit more flexibility, the 4M or 4M+ (with postscript capabilities) were the better choice. Also, there was a model with a page duplexer (for printing on both sides of the page). The printer isn't small or light and it produces a fair amount of fan noise all the time. Memory can be expanded to 16M (but the cost is high for this older style of memory). 1. Great printers
HP Flat out makes the best printers. The last printer that we had was a 5m and it lasted 8 years and was connected to a workgroup of 20+ people. We never had a problem. I just wanted to upgrade to get the increased printing speeds. You will not go wrong with this printer. We already have printed 250K+ pages without a hitch. It is also the easiest printer to attach to an existing network. At this point, I don't even bother looking at other manufacturers.

2. Super fast printing- sounds like a jet engine.
This printer is super fast. by the time you get the printer to pick up your prints it's done. Only one minor complaint- the printer sounds like a jet engine when printing (it only lasts a minute but still). Great for a shared office printer but I wouldn't put in a private office. This is not a desk printer. Would be 5 stars if it wasn't so loud.

1. Lousy, Worst Printer We've ever bought
Bought this for the office to replace a Dell 1320c which was a real trooper. This boasted a smaller size, for which we were excited. Having religiously bought HP 4250's, which we believe to be the best printers on the market, expectations for these were fairly high.

The printer is louder than the workstation printers we have, runs a 20 second cycle before printing. It prints really slowly, comparing to the dell color laser, not a monochrome laser. Afterwards, it continues running (still quite loudly) before clicking off. Intermittently (usually when you're on the phone) it decides to run a cleaning cycle. Sometimes if you're in a hurry, your print job will coincide with this random cycle, making your already slow job take a ridiculously long time.

The paper tray holds very little paper, and is constantly in need of replenishment. This is complicated by the fact that the last page always causes a paper jam, requiring the printer to be shut off and back on...

2. Great Printer except for one little thing
I bought this printer to replace an AIO that we never used the scanner, copier, fax capabilities. This being printer that uses the same toner cartridge, it was perfect for what we needed. One that bugs me and has kept me from giving it a 5 star review is that even though I configured it to use greyscale only, the printer still uses the colors. Other than that great printer!

1. Heavy Duty Color Laser
We have been using this at our office as a netwrok printer for a year and a half. Mostly for documents, charts and company resumes.

Pros:
-The color laser printout of images is very good even on a regular copy paper. You get better results using bright white photo paper. We have not to try it on a glossy paper yet but it can. But just don't compare it with an inkjet yet.
-Printing color images even for a full page is amazingly fast. Approximately mere 5 seconds per full color page.
-Compare to an inkjet, laser printers are much economical on ink. Inkjets are notorious for selling you the unit almost at a giveaway price and then selling a full set of replacement ink for the same price as the printer itself.
-Multiplatform. Windows and Mac
-Duplex printing.
-It can print up to 11 x 17 paper.
-The warm up time, around 15 secs is decent
-The spec claims a duty cycle of 120,000 pages per month. We are printing around 5000 pages a...

2. Nightmare!!!
This is certifiably the worse nightmare product I have ever bought. After paying $4000 for it 5 years ago, the printer began to have multiple print quality problems within the first year and half. From that point on it was one maddening experience with HP [lack of] support after another. We had to pay $30 at one point to get the quality pay-per-tech-service they required us to use; the guy freaking read the website trouble shooting guide to me while I screamed at him over the phone. We took the machine in to a certified repair technician and ended up replacing the fuser, image transfer kit, and all four toner cartridges even though they all showed more than 33% life left. Some problems were fixed but others not (it can't seem to print the same exact shade of tan across an entire page for instance, and there are intermittent black streaks that pop up.) We actually had to replace the transfer kit again after only 1 year and almost no use because it created large stripes of color...

Pretty good workgroup printer. Good supply of maint parts available.

Overall, they perform pretty well.

Depending on how intense your usage is, you might require some add on parts such as:
- more RAM
- external hard drive to help with job storage and collating
- IF you THINK you might need the duplexing capability, purchase the printer that INCLUDES it.
(buying the duplex unit later will cost over $100 more, to buy as as add on device)

Pros:

- can do most paper sizes, including 11 x 17
- service manuals readily available
- maint parts readily available
- add ons readily available
- with more vendors in the marketplace, you can buy parts cheaper than if you had to deal directly with a single source parts vendor.
- Service: if you buy the service manuals online and someone in your office has some technical abilities, you can most likely fix almost any problem that might arise. The HP service manuals have pretty well documented trouble...

Prior personal lasers (all HP)- 4ML, 5L, 1100, 1012 before this workhorse 4200. Superceded by 4300 recently (HP refresh 70% of printer range every 2 years!)- so some mega discounts available- I paid only $350 US new with 2 rebates!

Ultimately it/s about being recognised by the computer reliably (I have now dumped Windows XP (the virus crash monster on a Dell laptop) for OSX on an iMac G5- a lot less temperamental with *forgotten* printers); cheap page cost (about the lowest of HP/s stable approx 1 cent us per page versus 4 cents us for a 1012 or 1100); and speed/quality (true 1200dpi at 35ppm).

Ok- it/s big and heavy, a bit noisy, yet superfast, with many options for autoduplexing/stapling etc. 2 months in, am very happy with this printer. Did upgrade a jetdirect connectivity for USB etc.. at about $100us

1. Mixed thoughts about this printer
The HP 2420 is a decent printer with some nice features but also some worrisome aspects. Let me hit the good points first:

The printer is FAST. I'm replacing an old HP printer (2100M) that claimed it would print 10 pages per minute (PPM). Perhaps my old printer would hit 10 PPM if all I had it print was double-spaced text with no graphics. But for any serious work, the printer was closer to 6 PPM. This new printer literally flies. I've not timed it, but it must be very close to the claimed speed of 35 PPM even when I give it pages with some graphics. The printer is also quiet and I like the power-saving sleep mode.

Installing the printer was easy but I suspect it is VERY important not to connect the printer to the computer until the install software tells you to do so. Several years ago I connected an HP printer to my computer before I had installed the software that came with the machine. Boy, was that a mistake! It took about 2 hours working with HP service...

2. Great Printer Except for Mac 10.4 Driver
Bought the HP2420 to go with a new Mac G5. Great printer. Worked fine with Mac OS 10.3 where the driver software was provided by HP. Upgraded to the new OS Tiger 10.4.x where, unfortunately, the driver is now provided embedded in the Mac OS. Printer works fine, except that the Mac Safari browser cannot print to the 2420. When one attempts to print the printer generates an 0049 memory exception message. HP documentation says to turn the printer off to clear the memory. HP online says no driver is available for the Mac OS 10.4 since it is embedded in the OS. Catch 22--currently there is no fix available. Neither HP or Apple have responded to my complaints. Foxfire and Internet Explorer print just fine.

I have a network of four permanent computers, and several itinerant ones. These computers have included every iteration of Windows from 98 to XP Pro SP2, as well as OS X.3 and X.4.

This printer performs flawlessly with all of them, and has only been made more accessible through Apple's handy Bonjour software.

The color is startlingly good, and the speed is certainly more than the average home user would need, and enough for all but the highest-volume of business users. The flexibility of the on-board software allows you to control everything from print margins to paper size to color options from the printer itself, bypassing any settings you might have made in whatever program you're printing from.

USB 2.0 connections allow for very fast delivery of complex artwork--but this feature can be easily overrated. Depending on your network setup you may or may not be able to actually achieve this speed, through no fault of the printer's.

2. What a Great Printer - A Workhorse
I've had this printer for about a year now and it has been amazing. I work on private placements frequently and sometimes need to be able to print 100+ page documents at all hours of the day and night. This printer can crank them out amazingly fast, with great print quality and duplex printing to save paper. (I formerly used an old laser Multi-function device that printed at about 25% the speed, with no color, duplex or network connectivity - uggh!)

We purchased this printer largely to print color images on envelopes, as well as for printing full size color brochures. We also needed a networked printer for our office's multiple systems in 3 rooms. So far, this printer has let us down on both counts.

The print speed, quality and reliability has been sub-par. And the software required to run the printers has eaten up over 40 hours of IT time - the software causes the print spooler to crash on Windows XP and you must restart your system (or manually restart the print spooler on each system) to get this to print. For each print job. So much for the "speed" advantages of laser printers.

In terms of print speed, it prints single page documents very quickly, but there is a gap of 10-60 seconds between each page. Printing 10 Standard A4-size envelopes takes over 3 minutes to start up, then 20-40 seconds between each envelope. So printing 10 envelopes often takes close to 10 minutes. 2. So far so good
I got this printer to replace an HP 3550n which suddenly gave me an error that I couldn't fix, at least not without spending money to get HP to tell me what was wrong, and I wasn't willing to do that, not when new cartridges cost more than an entirely new machine. This machine was exactly the cost of 4 new cartridges, and guess what? I get a whole new warranty! Wait, there's more. It's faster, at 22 pages rather than 16. It's smaller, and takes up less space! And there's more... the new cartridges are rated for 6,000 pages rather than 4,000. So while I hate the idea that HP forced me to buy a new machine, it turned out pretty well. And yes, the thing works exactly as I hoped it would. Easy to set up, easy to network to all 3 of my office computers, and easy to use. So no complaints. Definitely worth getting.

1. Good for personal use
OK, I have owned this model of printer for about five years now. I got tired of the slow, messy, cheesy, ink jet printers and decided to go for a quality color laser printer. As an IT Professional and someone who supported business class laser printer, I knew that HP provides quality. In my opinion, this printer makes a great personal printer and could be used in a small office. The HP 2500 color laser cannot keep up with the demand of a high volume office. For my purposes, occasional documents and quarterly reports, this printer meets my needs. The time to print from cold start is a long one but this is a case for all color laser printers of this vintage. Yes, it make a lot of noise on start up. It is testing all the components. As for print speed, it is faster than in ink jet and for personal use, I think that most people would be fine with the speed. I did, however, opt for the extra paper tray. This makes life a lot easier.

2. Decent
I can't believe these are still around. I owned one a few years back. For a hundred bucks, if u get one in good working condition with full toner, you should be pretty happy.

From what I remember, it is slow and loud like the trolls mentioned. What sticks out in my mind was image quality. It is just so so. Not sharp, not vibrant in color, maybe even a little blurry. Just kind of blah, Forget about photo quality! Maybe I had the wrong drivers, idk. Didn't seem like 600dpi. I've seen better 300dpi.

I also remember replacement toner costing an arm and leg, probably par for the course.

It certainly isn't marvelous like shill fanboy suggests. It isn't garbage either.

Just middle of the road. I'm in the market now and not considering it.

WORST printer ever
It's slow piece of junk. And I mean SLOW.

I've had to use this thing for the last two years at my work. It's been an experience similar to the one they had with the printer on the movie Office Space. The sad part is that I work in a computer support office. Of all the printers we support this is the worst one. But it's the one we're stuck with.

The guy who gave it 5 stars must be employed by HP. Don't buy this or you will be sorry.

Pros: None.

Cons: Horridly slow. Smears colors everywhere. One of the color cartridges is always out of ink which makes the whole thing stop printing.

1. Nice printer so far
First, let me explain that I am a casual home user. Not being expert in networked printers, I'd not be posting this review except for the fact that in researching this printer I found almost no posted reviews anywhere online. I figured my observations were better than none.

Although I am a novice at installing and configuring a printer on a wired network, I followed the instructions (which were straightforward) and was able to set it up and get it working in under 20 minutes, with no problems at all.

Print quality looks good, but (of course) pictures don't look nearly as good as on a photo inkjet printer. My tests in printing photos on the 3800dn, however, have been very simple -- printing at default settings on plain paper. Tweaking the paper or the settings might make the output more impressive. That said, the pictures showed no banding or streaking -- that is, no terrible flaws. Compared to a photo inkjet, they were pretty flat however (the use of plain papers...

2. Excellent Printer, Although big
This printer works great, the sleep mode helps save power by only consuming 15W when asleep. And it wakes up whenever a print job is sent to it within 12 seconds. The only issues I have with the printer is the cost of toner. To replace all 4 toner carts, you will end up having to spend at least 600.00 The good part about the toner is each cart is rated @6000 pages, so they last awhile. Networking works like a charm, and the duplex function is flawless. The printer changes from last year are a straight line thru for printing, and support of PCL6/5 as well as Postscript 3, which the 3600 and the 3550 do not support. Also 288MB of RAM also helps. My only grip about this printer is that the paper tray requires you push down on it while you are sliding it in, else it won't detect there is any paper. Color wise the print jobs are good, but not as great as a high end ink Jet, but on the bright side, you don't have to worry about the ink drying up nor fading, or smuding when wet.

An excellent printer - works well under stress
We've had this printer it seems like forever.(4-5yrs) and it is a workhorse. With proper driver and configuration it works like a dream. We've printed 200 page reports, booklets, invitations (full colour) certificates, pictures etc. The automatic duplex is a god sent. It's networked and the only colour laser in my company. (25 authorized users)
As with ALL HP inks, it's expensive. I have to change cartridges every 2 months. But it works and the print quality is good. The only major problem I've found so far resides between the desk and chair.

This is one great printer. It is basically the older version of the P3005 and now P3015 series, but they do use different cartridges. I am very happy with my printer and did add an additional 128mb of memory and it handles the print jobs efficiently and quickly. I have no issues or concerns and am still on the second cartridge since the original cartridge as it just seems to go and go. I like the ease of removing a rare jam and of course being a duplex printer makes it more efficient with the use of my paper. I do though use 24lb Xerox paper which i do like better than the readily available 20lb paper. If you find one of these printers available i would recommend getting it for sure, but do make sure it has not been abused and check the amount of prints that have been printed to date. 2. Great Quality HP LaserJet
HP hit a home run with this printer. They are work horses! We have had 6 in our office [3 still work hard everyday]. This printer exceeds the stated printer live significantly.

As long as HP printer cartridges are used the machine runs flawlessly.

1. Great deal
Had an HP 2430dtn printer go down on our network and wanted to just swap in a replacement to save on setup and user problems. Since this printer is no longer made I thought I'd have to buy an expensive new one and go through a number of problems. So glad I found this refurbished machine. Just removed the old one, plugged in the new one and we were up and running. Printer looked like new, runs like new, no problems after months of use plus it has a warranty! Great buy.

2. Clear Printing
Had some trouble setting up the duplex and third tray printing at first, but everything is okay now.
We love it! Prints are very clear when we do labels. No problems with jamming, smudging, etc.

I had a 5000GN for years and donated it to my church. This is a lot smaller, a lot faster in the print quality is still on par.
