I've purchased many HP printers over the years, everything from basic home LaserJets and InkJets to full color LaserJets for office printing. I became interested in this printer because it offered all the basic features I wanted in a home printer:
- Automatic duplexing
- High speed printing
- Network capable
- USB connection
After setting up and using this new M401D, I found that my expectations were exceeded for this printer. Surprise, surprise, the setup and connection to the network was accomplished almost effortlessly (I had settled down for my requisite 60-minute setup task, but found that the install disk did this all for me almost without trying), and I was able to print from all the computers on my network (Mac and PC, laptop and desktop). The other thing I was surprised about was the nearly instant print once a job is sent (no more waiting for the drum to warm up while you sit there waiting for the page to be printed and come out). 2. Easy setup, fast, reliable, low cost
I am a reasonably competent user, but not a technology expert. I set it up to work on my wired network using the enclosed CD. Including my desktop, laptop, and also my IPad, it took about 25 minutes, and it works perfectly. Switches between the laptop (which is attached wirelessly to the network) and the desktop (wired) without hesitation. IPad app works well also. I couldn't be more pleased. And for $250 with duplex and network connection, can't be beat.

Good office printer. Does not allow non-HP catridges.
Bought this printer for office daily printing needs. It works great and we have no problem with it, easy setup, no issue. This printer absolutely does not allow any non-HP cartridges, you must and can only use HP brand cartridges, which do not last long.
Couple months ago, I moved this printer from office to home office, unable to reconnect, until I did a new setup, then it worked right away.
